Back-to-School Workshop!
Math and French Remedial Classes: Support for French Children Living Abroad!
Moving abroad, returning to France, changing schools, moving to a new home… Times of transition are full of new experiences, but they can also cause disruptions in children’s education.
When a family moves to a different country, region, or simply changes schools, the child sometimes has to adjust to new surroundings, new methods, and a different pace of learning.
And when certain fundamentals have not been sufficiently strengthened, the difficulties can quickly become more apparent.
With this in mind, I offer personalized remedial tutoring in math and French, primarily for students in CM1, CM2, and 6e, with the option of in-home tutoring in the Nîmes, La Calmette, and Uzès areas, or via videoconference for French families living anywhere in the world.
A refresher course designed for families going through a transition
A child who returns to France after spending several years abroad is not necessarily “behind.”
He may simply have followed a different path, been exposed to different methods, or developed certain skills without having mastered all those expected in the French school system.
The priority, therefore, is to understand where he really stands, rather than assuming that we have to start all over again.
That is why my coaching begins with a detailed assessment of your current skills and knowledge.
I use an approach inspired by vocational training:
Assess → identify → explain → train → validate.
This method makes it possible to quickly identify concepts that have been mastered, areas of weakness, and gaps that could hinder future learning.
Why focus specifically on Cycle 3?
Cycle 3, which primarily includes CM1, CM2, and 6e, is an important stage in the development of learning.
The knowledge and skills acquired during this period form an essential foundation for the rest of a student's academic career.
In mathematics, just as in French, certain concepts are closely related to one another.
Persistent difficulties with arithmetic, fractions, understanding instructions, or spelling can thus continue to lead to mistakes even several years later.
The goal of the workshop is therefore to identify the root cause of the difficulty, reinforce the fundamentals, and enable the student to move forward on a more solid foundation.
In math: identifying what's really holding you back
Rather than just going through the exercises one after another, I first try to understand how the student thinks and where the difficulty lies.
Depending on the needs, the work may involve:
-
calculation and operational techniques;
-
integers and decimals;
-
fractions;
-
mental arithmetic;
-
problem-solving;
-
quantities and measurements;
-
geometry;
-
reasoning;
-
understanding the instructions.
The concepts are then summarized before a series of progressive exercises is presented, ranging from the simplest to the most complex.
The goal is to help students understand the material, succeed, and then gradually become independent.
In French: Using dictation as a tool for progress
In French, dictation allows us to go far beyond simply counting mistakes.
It becomes a valuable diagnostic tool.
Errors are analyzed to identify the problematic areas: agreement, conjugation, homophones, endings, plurals, grammatical errors, etc.
Students then learn to analyze their own mistakes and understand what questions they need to ask themselves to avoid repeating them.
The goal is to gradually develop a habit of correct spelling.
Instead of simply saying, “I made 15 mistakes,” the student learns to understand:
"Why did I make that mistake? How can I spot it next time?"
It is this awareness that enables sustained progress and a significant reduction in the number of errors.
Support specifically tailored to French families living abroad
For expatriate families, videoconferencing makes it possible to stay on track with French academic standards, even when the child lives several thousand kilometers away.
This support can be particularly helpful:
-
before returning to France;
-
during a transition between two school systems;
-
in addition to a French education completed abroad;
-
to reinforce the fundamentals during a period of mobility;
-
before starting at a new school;
-
when a parent simply wants to take stock of their child's progress.
The CNED also serves as an official option that allows French families living abroad to follow the French school curriculum remotely, particularly when there is no French school in the host country.
My approach is based on a different philosophy: personalized, targeted educational support that addresses the specific difficulties identified in each student.
At home in the Nîmes, La Calmette, and Uzès areas
For families in the area, I also offer in-home sessions so that the child can work in a familiar environment.
Support is offered, in particular, in the following areas:
Nîmes – La Calmette – Uzès and their surrounding areas.
For families who live farther away or abroad, sessions can be conducted via videoconference, allowing us to maintain this personalized approach regardless of where they live.
A new school year with a solid foundation… and greater confidence
The purpose of a refresher course is not to make the child work harder during vacation.
It's about working better and with greater precision.
By identifying ongoing challenges, reviewing key concepts, and following a structured learning path, students can start the school year with:
-
on a consolidated basis;
-
a better understanding of the concepts;
-
more effective methods;
-
strengthened automatic processes;
-
greater autonomy;
-
and, above all, a renewed sense of confidence.
Is your family going through a transition?
Whether you're in Nîmes, La Calmette, Uzès, elsewhere in France, or abroad, your child can receive support tailored to their educational path and needs.
Are you planning to return to France? Is it time for a new school year? Are you changing schools?
Before trying to “catch up” on the curriculum, let’s start by identifying exactly what has been mastered, what is still shaky, and what needs to be reinforced.
At home: Nîmes, La Calmette, Uzès, and the surrounding area
Via videoconference: French families around the world
Math & French – primarily Cycle 3 (CM1, CM2, 6e)
Because a successful transition to school also starts with a solid foundation.
See you soon!
