Developing autonomy in learning!

A lot of us parents are still trying to reconcile telecommuting and homeschooling with our children! In this period of gradual deconfinement, I'd like to share with you a few tips on how to make our children more independent and less dependent on us on a daily basis to manage their schoolwork?

We all dream of our children being independent and resourceful. Paradoxically, we find it hard to let go and let them make decisions for themselves. So what's the right balance between letting them do their own thing and keeping an eye on them at all times?

It's all about finding the right balance as a parent. Yes, it's good to let them make their own choices, and toaccept that things may not always be as we'd like them to be. I think it's important for our children to evaluate themselves: it makes them feel like "beings in their own right"; it allows them to measure themselves, and it's more rewarding and concrete: so they can prioritize their learning and gradually build up their own working methods. We support them by respecting who they are and what they do. We have to accept that they make mistakes, so that they can understand their errors, and we gradually encourage them to ask the right questions and find the right answers. In this way, we have to accept that they can progress at their own pace, because their intelligence develops according to the freedom we give them to learn, while maintaining a clear framework. In this way, we move confidently towards freedom of action and thought, always available when needed, and always ready to listen!

See you soon on the road to academic and family success,

Passionately,

Anne Laure
